Description

The GNSI is seeking a detail oriented and very organized individual to orchestrate the 2024 online exhibit, which this year will be run independent of a conference. The process typically lasts about 4 months and can be scheduled any time within the 2024 calendar year.

The Exhibit Chair (1) recruits jurors, (2) runs the online open call system via Jotform, (3) distributes anonymized images to the jurors and runs the jury process (with any and all helpers they recruit), and (4) makes the final selections for the exhibit based on jurors' results and coordinates the uploading of images to the website. They collect and provide promo materials to our Online & Communications Team and ensure jurors are appropriately recognized and thanked. The Chair will use Excel, Jotform, Artwork Archive, and mail merge. The GNSI is able to provide training in these materials.

Description

The Online Exhibits Chair recruits jurors, runs the online open call system via Jotform, distributes anonymized images to the jurors and runs the jury process for online exhibits, recruiting any helpers they need to achieve these tasks. They make the final selections for the exhibit based on jurors' results and coordinate uploading of accepted works into the GNSI galleries. They coordinate with the Web Editor to upload the show to our website. They collect and provide promo materials to our Online & Communications Team and ensure jurors are appropriately recognized and thanked. Year-Round Workshops & Events
Description

Our Online Workshop Coordinators (up to 5 volunteers at any time) are responsible for working with the Education Director to choose a diverse array of online workshops to offer throughout the year. Each coordinator adopts a single workshop and runs the entire process from contacting the instructor, negotiating the contract, setting the date, collecting and advertising the appropriate information, to checking registration, moderating the event, and making sure the instructor gets paid. This position has maximum flexibility in that you have a say in when the process unfolds, and we encourage you to suggest instructors you would want to learn from. The entire process requires active involvement of 1 hour per week over approximately 3 months, with an increased commitment of approximately 2 hours per week in the weeks approaching the event.

Board of Directors
Description

The President of the Board of GNSI is tasked with leading the Board of Directors in carrying out our mission:

The Guild of Natural Science Illustrators is an association of individuals who communicate science visually and clarify scientific ideas. GNSI brings together these individuals and provides networking and professional development opportunities.

The nuts and bolts of this entail running monthly Board meetings (1-1.5 hrs) where all the various moving parts are coordinated and progress and accountability are established. The President also manages the contractors with the support of the Board.

Bigger picture, the President is tasked with ensuring our current offerings are adequately meeting the needs of our members and if not, coming up with solutions to better align our offerings with the needs of our members. A strategic plan was formulated in 2018 that is still relevant and is still being used as our north star. This is a highly collaborative position that requires efficiency, decisiveness, organization, and tact.

This position requires 1-2 hours weekly throughout the year with acute periods of greater involvement (leading up to the conference, addressing unforeseen complications, etc.)
